Engine Start and 18 Point Check
Crowley's
18 point engine check is the best way to minimize last
minute surprises and start your season with confidence.
After launching, our marine certified mechanics will
start your engine and perform an 18 point check of your
engine and related systems. Included is a visual inspection
of the engine, fluid levels, hoses, belts, wires, cables,
shafts, alternator output and other systems. A written
report is left on your boat for your records. In most
cases, an engine start is required when other engine
work is ordered. Minor repairs are made if time permits.
Otherwise, we will note the discovery on the engine
start report and suggest you schedule a harbor call
after the spring rush. If a significant problem is discovered
during the engine start, we will contact you to discuss
your options.
Gas Engine
Tune-Up
New plugs,
wires, caps and rotors are installed to ensure that
the ignition system operates properly. The carburator
and timing is adjusted as necessary to aid in quick
starts and full power throughout the operating range.
The work is completed in addition to the engine start.
Shaft
Alignment
Our shaft
alignment is the key to smooth powering. Not only is
the system adjusted, but other sources of vibration
are checked and recommendations are made if needed.
If you experienced excessive vibration last year while
under power, you are a candidate for this service.
Repack Stuffing
Box
We recommend
this service every few years. We repack the stuffing
box (where the shaft comes through the hull) before
the boat goes in the water. After the boat is launched,
a mechanic will run the engine and make adjustments.
Sterndrive
Service
Regular
maintanence of your sterndrive will help prevent the
need for costly drive replacement. Our mechanics will
remove your sterndrive and inspect the bellows, boots,
shift cable, input shaft and coupler. We will lubricate
the input shaft and coupler and change the upper and
lower unit oil. After the inspection, lubrication and
oil change the drive is reinstalled with a fresh seal
kit. Trim operation and fluid levels are checked along
with engine alignment.
Zinc Replacement and
Installation
Anti-corrosion
zincs protect valuable metal components from corrosion.
Stray electrical current and galvanic corrosion do irreparable
damage to your propellers, shafts, struts, rudders,
drives and other components. The inexpensive anodes
attract galvanic currents and corrode instead of valuable
metal items. The anodes can usually be replaced in less
than one hour.
